It will be held for the first time, with a line-up of chefs cooking, concerts and street performances. Admission is free.
There are more and more cooking festivals in every district of the country, but there is one — taking place for the first time this year — that promises to be really different: Meating. According to the organization, the event represents the “perfect harmonization” between gastronomy and music, and takes place in Miranda do Douro, on the 14th and 15th of September.
The challenge is simple: there will be four chefs cooking (live) creative dishes that explore the characteristics of chestnuts and olive oil from Trás-os-Montes. The initiative was presented at BTL, in a press conference that revealed some of the confirmed protagonists.
Óscar Geadas and Marcelo Dias will be in the kitchen. Saxophonist João Cabrita will collaborate with the traditional Mirandese music group Galandum Galundaina; and Portuguese singer Surma will perform with the band Trasga.
“Miranda do Douro has a very strong identity. This is what we want to celebrate, with an event that puts this tradition in dialogue with creativity and innovation. The objective is for chefs to create something from local products and for national artists, of different styles, to also create unique concerts in collaboration with local people. This will result in an exclusive gastronomic and cultural experience”, explains Pedro Cepeda, member of the organization.
Meating also offers programming for the whole family. You can count on street entertainment, run by Wetutum — a non-profit cultural association that stimulates and develops artistic movements — and a traditional market for Trás-os-Montes products. Admission is free.
